POLICING – CERTIFICATE IN POLICING (POLC) (NQF level 5)
The focus of the policing certificate is to provide students with an entry route into policing. Successful completion of the certificate enables further studies towards the diploma in policing (Level 6)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Have successfully passed Grade 12 or a Pre-qualification in Policing (Level 4)
DURATION
The Policing Certificate is a 1 year qualification for which IOL students have two (2) years to complete.
POLICING – PRE-QUALIFICATION CERTIFICATE (POLP) (NQF level 4)
This course is designed for students who do not meet the entry requirements for the Certificate in Policing. Successful completion of the bridging course enables further studies towards the certificate in policing (Level 5)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicant must be older than 16 years and have successfully passed Grade 10 with 23 points.
DURATION
The Policing Pre-Qualification Certificate is a one (1) semester qualification for which distance education students receive three (3) semesters (one and a half years) to complete the qualification.
POLICING – DIPLOMA IN POLICING (POLD) (NQF level 6)
The Diploma in Policing is a two-year qualification that is aimed at equipping students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in policing, police operations, police management and administration. It is designed to cover a wide range of the national and local occupational standards and needs for policing and community policing in Namibia.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicant must hold a Certificate in Policing (Level 5) or equivalent qualification.
DURATION
The Diploma in Policing is a two (2 year) qualification for which IOL students have four (4 years) to complete.
DIPLOMA IN SENIOR PRIMARY EDUCATION (DSPE) (NQF level 7)
The Diploma in Senior-Primary Education (Level 7) aims to develop skilled, committed, and insightful professionals equipped with the subject knowledge and pedagogical skills needed to promote effective and inclusive learning in primary schools.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must hold a three-year senior primary teacher qualification. Candidates can choose any two of the following major combinations:
Social Science + English
Mathematics + Natural Science and Health Education
English + a Mother Tongue
DURATION
The Diploma in Senior Primary Education one (1) year qualification for which IOL students have three (3) years to complete.
DIPLOMA IN JUNIOR PRIMARY EDUCATION (DJPE) (NQF level 7)
The Diploma in Junior Primary Education (Level 7) aims to develop skilled, committed, and insightful professionals with the subject knowledge and pedagogical skills necessary to promote effective and inclusive learning in Junior Primary schools. This three-year initial teacher education qualification is designed to meet all Namibian requirements, providing a strong foundation for national human resources development. By focusing on Pre-Primary and Grades 1 to 3, this diploma sets the stage for future learner success in school.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must hold an NSSCO qualification or an equivalent recognised qualification with a minimum of 22 points in five subjects, including a C in English and a D in Mathematics. Alternatively, mature age entry is available for applicants aged 23 or older on the day of registration with one of the following: an NSSCO qualification and two years of relevant teaching experience, or a transfer from the IOL ‘Pre-Primary Diploma’ to the new ‘Junior Primary Diploma’ with recognition of all accumulated credits.
DURATION
The Diploma in Junior Primary Education level seven (7) is a three (3) year qualification for which IOL students have six (6) years to compete.
DIPLOMA IN SECONDARY EDUCATION (DSE) (NQF level 7)
The Diploma in Secondary Education qualification is designed to offer a quick and effective upgrade of secondary teachers who holds a level six (6) qualification that would benefit both the individual and the national standards of education.
This effective upgrading to a level seven (7) involves school subject content of two (2) school subjects and their teaching methodologies. Understanding of the learner development and teaching science, learner counselling, assessment, inclusive support, teaching-learning resources, curriculum studies and educational management and research are some of the modules covered under this qualification.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
An applicant must be a holder of a three-year secondary teacher qualification such as BETD with a specialization in Junior Secondary OR any other recognised level six (6) secondary diploma.
The two school subjects to be selected in the DSE must have been taken in grade twelve (12) with a (D in ordinary level) OR in the three-year Diploma, as majors in the junior secondary specialisation. OR
Transfer from the ‘Advanced Certificate in Secondary Education (ACSE)’ to the new ‘Diploma in Secondary Education’ with recognition for all credits accumulated.
DURATION
The Diploma in Secondary Education level seven (7) is a one and a half (1.5) year qualification for which IOL students receive three (3) years to compete.
Diploma in Education: Secondary (DES) (NQF level 7)
This level seven (7) qualification aims to develop competent beginner professionals who are skilled, committed and insightful and have the subject content and technological pedagogical knowledge that is required to promote effective and inclusive learning in secondary schools.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
An applicant must have a grade 11/12 with a minimum score of twenty-two (22) points in the five (5) best school subjects. One of the five subjects must be English (as a Second Language) with a C symbol on Ordinary level or English (as First language) with a D symbol.
The two school subjects to be selected as majors in the Diploma must also be part of the five subjects of the grade 12 qualification with at least a D symbol on ordinary level OR
(b) Meet the requirements of mature age entry which means:
• An applicant should be 23 years or older on the day of registration.
• Should have completed NSSC or recognised equivalent with a minimum of nineteen (19) points in the best five (5) subjects.
• One of the five subjects must be English (as a Second Language) with a C symbol on Ordinary level or English (as First language) with a D symbol.
• The two school subjects to be selected as majors in the Diploma must also be part of the five subjects of the grade 12 qualification with at least D symbol on Ordinary level.
• The applicant should also have at least three (3) years relevant teaching experience at junior or secondary in the two selected subjects.
DURATION
The Diploma in Education: Secondary level 7 is a three (3) year qualification for which IOL students have six (6) years to compete.
Diploma in Education: Secondary Education (DESE) (NQF level 7)
This qualification is aimed at developing individual degree holders who want to join the teaching profession. The objective for this course is to turn these individuals into skilled, committed and insightful teachers with subject knowledge, pedagogical skills and general education to promote effective and inclusive learning in secondary schools.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
An applicant must be e a holder of a recognised B. Degree worth 360 credits, the degree should contain two (2) school subjects, both up to Level 6-4 semesters.
DURATION
The Diploma in Education : Secondary Education level 7 is a one and half (1.5) year qualification for which IOL students have three (3) years to complete.
BACHELOR IN EDUCATION: SENIOR PRIMARY (BESP) NQF (LEVEL 8)
The Bachelor of Education in Senior Primary Education Degree is a four-year Namibian-designed teacher education qualification tailored to meet the demand for skilled senior primary educators in Namibia. This qualification supports the government’s commitment to delivering quality primary education across the nation. It aims to develop professionals who are not only knowledgeable in their subjects but also possess the pedagogical skills to foster effective and inclusive learning in Senior Primary schools.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must hold an NSSCO qualification or an equivalent recognised qualification with a minimum of 25 points in five subjects. One of the five subjects must be English (English as a Second Language) with at least a C symbol, or English as a First Language with a D symbol. Additionally, two of the five best subjects must be relevant to the two school subjects selected in the degree and must be passed at a Grade C ordinary level. Alternatively, mature age entry is available for applicants aged 23 or older on the day of registration, with an NSSCO qualification that includes English and the two relevant school subjects, along with two years of relevant teaching experience.
DURATION
The Bachelor in Education: Senior Primary level eight (8) is a four (4) year qualification for which IOL students have eight (8) years to complete.
BACHELORS OF EDUCATION HONOURS DEGREE (BEDHONS) (NQF level 8)
The Bachelors of Education Honours Degree aims to provide specialisation in a particular professional area to promote quality education and prepare teachers for a Master’s in Education. This qualification contributes significantly to national human resources development by developing skilled, committed, and insightful professionals with the subject knowledge and pedagogical skills needed to promote effective and inclusive learning in Primary and Secondary schools.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must hold a recognised Bachelor’s Degree, a Level 7 teacher qualification, or a BETD plus an Advanced Certificate.
DURATION
The Bachelor in Education Honours level eight (8) is a two (2) year qualification for which IOL students have four (4) years to complete.
CERTIFICATE IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (CECE) (NQF level 5)
The overall goal of the Certificate in Early Childhood Education is to develop skilled, committed, and insightful teachers who have the subject knowledge and pedagogical skills to promote effective learning in early childhood settings.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for admission in the Certificate in Early childhood Education an applicant shall satisfy any one of the following minimum requirements:
(a) Be a holder of a Namibian Senior Secondary Certificate (NSSC) Ordinary / Higher or recognised equivalent with a minimum of nineteen (19) points in five (5) subjects with a D symbol in English. OR
(b) Meet the requirements of mature age entry which means: An applicant must be23 years or older on the day of registration: should have successfully completed junior secondary education (Grade 10) English = D symbol, plus 5 other subjects = 23 points. Has at least 2 years of relevant early childhood teaching experience. OR
(c) Transfer from the IOL Diploma in Pre-Primary Education (DPPE) Level 7. OR
(d) Transfer from the IOL Diploma in Junior Primary Education (DJPE) Level 7.
DURATION
The Certificate in Early Childhood Education level five (5) is a one (1) year qualification for which IOL students have three (3) years to complete.
DIPLOMA IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (DECE) (NQF level 6)
The overall goal of the Diploma in Early Childhood Education is to develop skilled, committed, and insightful teachers who have the subject knowledge and pedagogical skills to promote effective learning in early childhood settings.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
An applicant must be a holder of the IOL Level five (5) Certificate in Early Childhood Education or an equivalent qualification.
DURATION
The Diploma in Early Childhood Education level six (6) is a one (1) year qualification for which IOL students have three (3) years to complete.
